Golfing for Sinai, with a twist

On Wednesday, August 19, golfers gathered at Goodwood Golf Club in Stouffville for the 26th Annual Mount Sinai Classic, presented by Equitable Bank and Peerage Capital Partners. It was the foundation’s first signature event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The organizing committee and foundation team had to pivot this year to plan a day that is as fun as always, but with extra safety precautions due to COVID-19,” says Louis de Melo, CEO of Sinai Health Foundation.

“It was a perfect day of golf, and we were thrilled to surpass our fundraising goal by raising over $450,000 net to support the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute,” says de Melo. “The team’s hard work and the support of our incredible donor community made it a day to remember.”

Safety was taken seriously, with registrations done via drive-through, masked volunteers, signage reminding golfers to keep their distance, and sanitizer and wipes stocked up on every golf cart and on every hole on course.

The event’s fresh approach to food was both a safety precaution and a highlight. Instead of the indoor breakfast and dinner that were hosted at previous years’ tournaments, outdoor food trucks served up an array of fantastic fare.

Breakfast was served by the Food Dudes food truck with socially distant standing tables available outdoors. And in lieu of a post-golf dinner, the course was dotted with tantalizing snacks including Burger Drops burgers and grilled cheese, The Gourmet Group brisket sliders, Smoke’s Poutinerie and even an ice cream truck.

On their way out, golfers got drive-through Tiny Tom’s donuts, fresh-squeezed lemonade and the event’s signature Chicago58 salamis.

“I’m so grateful to our event chair, Brian Cohen, and to Jonathan Pollack and Shane Grosman for championing this year’s Mount Sinai Classic, and of course to Equitable Bank and Peerage Capital Partners for presenting this outstanding event,” says Maxine Granovsky Gluskin, Board Co-Chair.

Since its inception, the Mount Sinai Classic has raised over $10 million to support Sinai Health’s Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. Sinai Health Foundation thanks all the supporters who made the 26th annual Mount Sinai Classic such a great success!
