Leading through change
Connection is so important. And I'm not talking about a strong WiFi connection - but real, human connection.
In a stable, non-pandemic world, “connection” usually means meeting face-to-face, hand-to-hand, smile-to-smile. But in a COVID-19 world, it typically means Zooming to the next video conversation.
This holiday season will require even more creativity to stay connected and healthy. Sadly, having a merry time this December will likely mean smaller gatherings with only your household.
Maintaining and building relationships in a virtual world has been a priority for Sinai Health Foundation throughout the pandemic. We implemented a number of measures to ensure we all stay connected and lessen the separation anxiety.
We've held weekly virtual town halls to allow all our staff to come together. We've even had lunch together by distributing gift cards from a food delivery service and synchronizing our food's arrival - a good way to celebrate with friends and family this holiday.
For many people, the act of gift giving is another way of sharing love and spreading some much needed joy. However, just like holiday parties, holiday shopping will also look a lot different, especially for the regions experiencing a second lockdown. Toronto's typically bustling malls are now closed, along with smaller retailers and most storefronts.
Sinai Health's own market that usually lines the main lobby of Mount Sinai Hospital has also met the same fate. However, people can shop the Sinai Market online for one-of-a-kind gifts from local vendors and small independent businesses.
The market supports Sinai Health Foundation in raising funds for its highest priority needs, including support for front-line workers and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every handcrafted item is a gift that gives twice. The heartwarming experience of the holidays could be even more profound if you knew that your gift will also help our frontline champions of care.
A new year is almost upon us, bringing new resolutions. Sinai Health Foundation will continue building connections, even as we're all being told to keep our distance. Because the only way we'll get through this — is together.
Here's to a happy and healthy 2021.
