On Monday, August 14, golfers gathered at Magna Golf Club in Aurora for the 29th annual Mount Sinai Classic, presented by Equitable Bank and Peerage Capital Partners. Golfers were especially thrilled to hit the course this year after the original event day in June was postponed due to a record rainfall. The day was well worth the wait

“The organizing committee and foundation team had to unexpectedly change course this year, but they did so with tremendous grace,” says Louis de Melo, CEO of Sinai Health Foundation.

“In the end, the sun was shining, spirits were high and we surpassed our fundraising goal by raising approximately $800,000 net to support the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute,” says de Melo. “The hard work and incredible generosity of the event committee and sponsors has made the Mount Sinai Classic one of our most successful events, year after year.”

On the cusp of its 30th anniversary, the Mount Sinai Classic is truly one-of-a-kind. Sinai Health's longest-standing fundraising event has made a staggering impact, with approximately $13 million raised in support of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI).

The LTRI is the top-ranked biomedical research institute in Canada and is home to scientists who are number one worldwide in the fields of diabetes, cancer and molecular biology. Philanthropy is key to the LTRI's success, providing stable funding for operations and the recruitment of leading-edge researchers.

The longstanding support of the Mount Sinai Classic has enabled a host of research breakthroughs, such as the discovery of two new classes of drugs for diabetes, which ultimately contribute to the health and wellbeing of people globally.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has championed the Mount Sinai Classic and contributed to its remarkable legacy, including our incredible committee and our very supportive sponsors,” says Brian Cohen, Event Chair.
