Dr. Shah has practiced at Mount Sinai since 2002 and has made an impactful contribution to the clinical, research and education pillars of the department. His expertise is sought throughout our health-care system, and he has served as an advisor to government agencies, both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Shah is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto, and is cross-appointed to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, as well as the Division of Neonatology at SickKids Hospital.

Education

Dr. Shah obtained his MBBS from Gujarat University, India in 1988, followed by Pediatrics residency and MD in Pediatrics in 1992. He underwent training in the UK as Senior House Officer to Senior Registrar before coming to Toronto in 1999 for Neonatal Perinatal Fellowship. He also holds a Masters of Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research and Health Administration from the University of Toronto.

Research

Dr. Shah is a world-renowned investigator who has published in high impact journals. He is a Senior Clinician Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tannenbaum Research Institute with a focus on improving the quality and outcomes of extremely preterm neonates.

He is the Director of three neonatal networks: Canadian Neonatal Network (a network of 31 tertiary NICUs in Canada), Canadian Preterm Birth Network (a network of tertiary NICUS, MFM/OB units and Follow up units) and International Network for Evaluation of Outcomes of Neonates (iNeo, a collection of 393 NICUs from 11 high-income countries). Through the networks, he has an advanced understanding of variations of outcomes of extremely preterm neonates and developed a culture of cross-collaboration to learn from each other to improve quality and outcomes.

His expertise is sought throughout our health-care system, and he has served as an advisor to government agencies nationally and internationally, including Canadian Perinatal Surveillance System, Public Health Agency of Canada; Provincial Council for Maternal Child Health, Ontario; Institute of Human Development and Child Health of CIHR; and Member of Health Commission to Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, India
