Research

We are the future of discovery, clinical translation and care at Sinai Health, set to scale new heights with life-changing innovation.

Bench to bedside

The best care is fuelled by research, discovery and innovation—from the bench to the bedside. Sinai Health boasts an expansive research program that covers the entire course of human life from the prenatal period to old age. We are driving innovation in health care for the benefit of our patients today and for generations to come.

Our Institutes

Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI) is at the forefront of innovation at Sinai Health. It is renowned as one of the world’s leading biomedical research centres. Established in 1985 and affiliated with the University of Toronto, LTRI is making profound advances in our understanding of human biology in health and disease.

Our research is focused on systems biology, women’s and infants’ health, cancer biology, regenerative medicine, neurobiology, diabetes and more. LTRI thrives on innovation, using cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence tools to deepen our understanding of health and disease.  Our culture of excellence and collaboration attracts scientists from around the world and fosters an environment where bold ideas and diverse perspectives drive scientific breakthroughs.

Vital patient-oriented research at both Mount Sinai Hospital and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital complements the biomedical discovery at LTRI. This research occurs across clinical departments and the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute. Our clinical researchers, many of whom are affiliated with the LTRI, seek to improve treatments and find cures for some of today’s most intractable diseases, from cancer to diabetes to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Thanks to their work, breakthrough research continues to result in new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.

At Sinai Health, we also take pride in researching effective, compassionate and empathetic care—both through our clinical research streams and within the Science of Care Institute. Based at Hennick Bridgepoint, the Science of Care Institute uses science-based evidence to empower our health-care professionals to redefine and elevate patient care.

We look forward to uniting our research teams in a purpose-built research tower on Murray Street. The future of discovery, clinical translation and patient care at Sinai Health is set to scale new heights with life-changing innovation.
