Colorectal Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP)

We help streamline care for people being assessed for colorectal cancer and those who are newly diagnosed.

What we do

The Colorectal Diagnostic Assessment Program (DAP) at Mount Sinai Hospital coordinates expert care for patients.

We help patients navigate from a potential diagnosis to treatment of colorectal cancer as efficiently as possible. This may include diagnostic testing, providing information and helping to book appointments.

DAP is often a patient’s first point of contact when they have suspected symptoms or a confirmed diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

We help streamline the cancer care of patients who have any of the following:

  • Concerning colorectal symptoms that require immediate attention
  • A recent positive result from a fecal immunochemical test (FIT)
  • A new diagnosis of colorectal cancer

What to expect

Timely and responsive care is important to us. When we receive your referral, it is assessed for urgency level and an appointment is scheduled as quickly as possible.

At your first appointment, you will meet with a member of our team who will help you understand what tests and appointments you need and schedule them for you.

One of your first tests may be a colonoscopy. At Mount Sinai, we use state-of-the-art colonoscopy technology to identify and diagnose colon and rectal abnormalities.

Colonoscopy involves passing a tiny video camera inside the rectum and colon. Learn more about colonoscopies and how to prepare for your colonoscopy procedure.

After your colonoscopy, the physician will discuss the test with you and talk about any next steps before you leave your appointment.

If cancer is found, this program is the centralized point of entry into our internationally recognized colorectal cancer program.
