We have just launched a brand new sinaihealth.ca website experience. Should you experience any technical issues, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Seating Clinic

We prescribe and arrange for custom wheelchairs and other supportive seating equipment.

What we do

Our Seating Clinic team helps people who rely on wheelchairs and also have issues, such as pressure injuries, postural challenges and other medical conditions, which make sitting difficult.

We prescribe and arrange for custom wheelchairs and other supportive seating equipment like highly specialized custom-molded cushions and back rests.

The Seating Clinic serves patients staying a Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital who are referred by their care team and patients from the community who have been referred by a health-care provider.

What to expect

At your first appointment, you will meet with an occupational therapist and occupational therapist assistant who will talk to you about your issues and concerns. They will:

  • Assess your seating needs
  • Evaluate your current wheelchair and seating equipment
  • Recommend either a new wheelchair or other seating equipment or an adjustment to your current wheelchair
  • Work with an Assistive Device Program (ADP)-approved vendor of your choice (this is often a supplier you have already purchased a wheelchair from)

You can expect to have follow-up appointments to make sure your new equipment fits your body properly and is working well for you.

Fees and funding

Patients with a valid Ontario health card can apply for funding for their equipment through the Ontario Ministry of Health’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP).

Our occupational therapists are registered authorizers for this program and will complete the forms for you. We can also help you apply for other funding which may offset the cost of your equipment.

What to bring

  • Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage (needed for every visit)
  • A list of your current physicians
  • Form-fitting clothes that make it easier to take measurements
  • Information about your current wheelchair or seating equipment, including where and when you got them
  • A support person to help you get to the appointment, if desired
