Rapid Concussion Clinic

We see people who have had a concussion within the last three months.

What we do

Our Rapid Concussion Clinic specializes in treating patients who have had mild traumatic brain injuries, also known as concussions, within the last three months.

We provide counselling and treatment for people aged 16 and older dealing with ongoing symptoms from a concussion or those who need support getting back to their regular activities like work and sports.

We aim to see patients within two to four weeks after receiving a referral. Research shows early management of concussions leads to a quicker and fuller recovery.

What to expect

Your clinic appointment can be in person or virtually.

During your appointment, a neurologist will review your medical history and discuss how your symptoms affect your daily life and routines.

The neurologist will also conduct a neurological exam.

Based on the discussion and your medical assessment, the neurologist will work with you to develop a treatment plan that is specific to your needs. Your treatment plan may include medication, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or procedures such as cranial nerve blocks.

Our care team will provide guidance on how you can safely get back to doing the activities you were doing before the injury.

After your first visit, we may arrange for more medical tests, like a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test, or follow-up appointments.

Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or fellows as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.

What to bring

  • Health (OHIP) card or valid health care coverage
  • A list of your current medical conditions
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any recent test results you’ve received, such as medical images like MRIs
  • Patients who have cognitive or memory issues should bring a caregiver who can provide us with health information and take notes of our discussion.
