Nursing Learner Programs

We provide hands-on learning and clinical nursing placements.

An enriching experience

At Sinai Health, our nursing learners are very important to us.

Education is a key component of the Nursing Department, and we value the opportunity to contribute to your growth as a nurse through meaningful clinical placements.

Sinai Health nurses provide evidence-informed, integrated and patient-centred care within our two campuses and in the community. All of our education and professional development opportunities are informed by our highly skilled nurses.

Mount Sinai Hospital is the only hospital in Canada to achieve prestigious Magnet recognition for meeting their rigorous standards for nursing excellence.

Our department is committed to lifelong learning and offers a range undergraduate, graduate and professional development opportunities.

Our programs

Undergraduate placements

Undergraduate placements

Undergraduate and diploma nursing students enrolled in our nursing programs learn in small groups or through one-on-one training. A robust orientation program welcomes our students into both hospital sites.

Nursing students will:

  • Gain hands-on experience in patient care
  • Practice patient assessments
  • Learn to collaborate with other members of the health-care team
  • Work in a variety of departments within Sinai Health

Placements that focus on specialty areas of training are sometimes available. Contact your placement coordinator to learn more.

  • Operational and professional leadership

Continuing education

Continuing education

The University of Toronto offers many learning opportunities for continuing education and professional development. Our staff members work with the university to translate academic vision into day-to-day learning at both Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint.

Post graduate placements are available in our General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Psychiatry, Surgical Oncology, Labour and Delivery, and Mother-Baby units.

Internationally educated nurses

Internationally educated nurses

At Sinai Health, we offer training placements for internationally educated nurses who are completing the Ontario Internationally Educated Nurses Course Consortium competency-bridging program.

Clinical externship employment opportunities

Clinical externship employment opportunities

Clinical externships are paid positions to gain work experience under supervision. These opportunities are open to current nursing students.

At Sinai Health, our clinical externships are transitional roles that offer:

  • Specialized clinical experience with direct patient care
  • Experience in patient assessments and documentation
  • Opportunities to collaborate as part of an interprofessional team
  • On-the-job learning that will prepare you for a future career
Nursing Graduate Guarantee

Nursing Graduate Guarantee

The Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) is a provincial program that provides three to six months' funding to newly hired nurses within their first year of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

We then support these new hires with additional training and professional development that leads to full-time hours.
