Captured Caring: Inspiring moments from August 2025

Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.

The Mount Sinai Hospital Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) and Mental Health Court Support Program proudly began serving the community in 1999 and 2000 respectively. On Wednesday, August 13, we marked this milestone with a celebration, joined by our clients, family members, community partners and senior management.
For 26 years, we have provided steadfast care and support to individuals living with serious and persistent mental illness. We are deeply grateful for the dedication of our team, the resilience of the individuals we serve, and the invaluable support of our community partners and allies.
As we reflect on the journey, we remain committed to our mission and to expanding our impact in the years ahead. We are looking forward to many more years of compassionate care, community, collaboration and hope.

Over the past year, Occupational Health and Safety took part in the Ministry of Labour’s slips, trips and falls initiative through the WSIB Excellence program. We thank everyone who contributed — from staff and committees to those working behind the scenes. Thanks to you:
- More than 5,000 staff completed the e-learning module (88 per cent completion rate)
- There were no slips, trips and falls critical injuries this year
- Surveys showed a 20 per cent increase in awareness of slips, trips and falls risks among our people
- A dedicated slips, trips and falls resource page was launched for additional resources
- Proactive steps, including, but not limited to in-unit huddles, posters, and safety walk-throughs are being taken to address and improve identified concerns.
Your commitment to health and safety is clear through your completion of the slips, trips and falls e-learning module, as well as your participation in audits, inspections, and discussions. Thank you for your hard work!

This summer, Volunteer Resources partnered with Toronto Community Housing to offer 11 young people the opportunity to develop valuable skills, build confidence, and make a positive impact, while also strengthening community bonds.
The volunteers supported the following program areas: NICU, Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD), Maximizing Aging Using Volunteer Engagement (MAUVE), the Milk Bank, the Fracture Clinic and the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU).
Nicholas Santokhi volunteered in the NICU where he supported programming for NICU parents and assisted nurses and ward clerks.
Nick also had the opportunity to learn about health care professions through job shadowing. He said his biggest learning was from attending rounds, where he gained a better understanding of the significance of every aspect of care during a baby’s stay.
Thank you to the stakeholders who support our volunteers. Their contributions, whether through resources, encouragement, or active participation, are invaluable to the success of volunteer program and the overall mission of our organization. This support enables volunteers to make a meaningful impact.
