Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.

“Please join me in celebrating Najla Tabbara’s successful thesis defense, marking the final step in her IHPME Master’s in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research. Her defense was nothing short of exceptional—described by the panel as “the best seen for any graduate student, MSc or PhD.”

Najla’s work focuses on improving care for women and infants, addressing critical gaps in preventing pain during procedures. Her research has spanned systematic reviews, feasibility trials, and clinical surveys, all with the goal of improving outcomes for our tiniest patients. She has also contributed to key publications on maternal and neonatal health.

She embodies Sinai Health’s Purpose and Values in everything she does. When I told her about the overwhelming demand for a celebratory email, her first instinct was to recognize the many people who supported her along the way. She credits her thesis committee, NICU nurses and clinicians, the Neonatal Pain and PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) committees, pharmacy colleagues, and funding through CIHR’s graduate scholarship, and Sinai Health’s Science of Care and Rose Torno bursary for their guidance and collaboration.

We are so proud to have you at Sinai Health. Congratulations!”

“March 19 was Dietitians Day, an opportunity to recognize the valuable role of Registered Dietitians! These experts are a vital part of the care team at Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals. They use their specialized knowledge of food and nutrition science to support patients of all ages with a wide range of medical conditions.

Working across all areas of the hospital, dietitians focus on optimizing nutrition for healing and recovery. In collaboration with diet technicians, diet clerks, and food service staff, dietitians help patients nourish to flourish. Thank you for your important work as part of the patient care team.”

“March was Pharmacy Appreciation Month, a time to celebrate the dedication and care of our pharmacy professionals. With over 140 pharmacists and technicians supporting Mount Sinai Hospital, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, and Mount Sinai Fertility, their impact is felt across our organization.

At Mount Sinai Fertility, pharmacists Peng, Rupinder, and Tova, along with pharmacy technicians Angeline and Suhki, work closely with the care team to ensure patients safely receive their medications and the support they need to achieve their fertility goals. They provide accurate dispensing, injection training, insurance assistance, and answer medication-related questions for both patients and staff.

“National Mental Health Nursing Day was February 21, an opportunity to recognize all mental health nurses at Sinai Health for their dedication to providing compassionate patient care and supporting mental wellness at both Hennick Bridgepoint and Mount Sinai Hospitals.

Mental health nurses at Sinai Health provide care in Inpatient Psychiatry, in outpatient psychiatry clinics and in community outreach clinics that serve older adults and marginalized populations. There are also mental health nursing clinical nurse specialists who leverage their expertise by providing support for patients and the clinical teams to deliver safe, effective and expert care in the Emergency Department and during inpatient admissions, responding wherever their knowledge is needed.”
