Mount Sinai Hospital confirms first case of COVID-19

Mount Sinai Hospital received confirmation of a first positive test result for COVID-19.

On March 5, a patient presented at Mount Sinai’s Emergency Department with respiratory symptoms and recent travel to the Netherlands, France and Italy. The Emergency Department team isolated the patient immediately and took all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of hospital staff and other patients. There is no risk to anyone who was in the Emergency Department on March 5.

The patient was discharged and is now at home in self-isolation and Toronto Public Health is monitoring.

Mount Sinai Hospital remains open and all clinics and procedures are running as normal. The Hospital is safe for patients and visitors.
