The UHN-West Park Reactivation Care Centre Cross-Organizational Team has been recognized with the Partner Relations - Achievement, Commitment and Excellence (ACE) Award.

The ACE Awards, handed out by the Ontario Ministry of Health, recognize the outstanding work and dedication of teams and individuals across the ministry and health care sector.

Through the partnership of the Ministry of Health, Infrastructure Ontario, Ontario Health, University Health Network (UHN), Trillium Health Partners (THP) and Sinai Health, 94 beds were opened in the former Westpark Healthcare Centre site that had been scheduled for demolition. This cross-organizational team was able to rapidly secure funding, create an operational readiness plan to open the facility and start operating beds at the new UHN West Park Reactivation Care Centre within a very short time frame. The goal is to increase access for patients within the Toronto region.

Sinai Health’s Celine Nanji (Nathoo), Senior Manager, Rehabilitation and Clinical Nutrition and Reactivation Care Centre; Katherine McQuaid-Bascon, Senior Director, Health Disciplines, Complex Transitions and Reactivation Care Centre; Kara Ronald, Vice President, Professional Practice, Nursing and Health Disciplines; and Kamal Coshal, Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Capital, were among the team of recipients celebrated at the awards ceremony last week.

“Working closely and collaborating with our partners made it possible to open this facility in an impressively short amount of time,” said Kara. “Celine and Katherine’s commitment to safely and effectively bringing the unit into operation was instrumental to the success of the project. As was the tireless support and dedication of many Sinai Health colleagues from departments across the organization. The addition of this new unit will allow us to deliver excellent and compassionate care to patients as they transition back to the community.”

Reactivation Care Centres are a part of the Ministry of Health’s commitment to providing specialized care to patients who no longer require acute care services, with a focus on reintegrating patients back into the community.
