Statement regarding an incident on EllisDon’s construction site at Mount Sinai Hospital

Media Statement

We have learned of a possible hate crime on the EllisDon construction site at Mount Sinai Hospital

The incident, which occurred earlier this month, was reported yesterday to EllisDon and is now under investigation by Toronto Police Services. We are taking every measure to support EllisDon and Toronto Police Services in their investigation, and have taken additional precautions to ensure safety and security on the site.

I am appalled and extremely disturbed by this event. At the heart of Sinai Health is our commitment to ensuring inclusivity and to have racist behaviour occur in our hospital and community is simply not acceptable.

We want to thank EllisDon for their quick actions in contacting police immediately to inform them of this crime and to help police identify and prosecute whomever is responsible for this as soon as possible.

We will continue to work with EllisDon and the Toronto Police Services to ensure we do everything possible to uphold one of the hospital’s core values – that of inclusivity.

Dr. Gary Newton, President & CEO of Sinai Health
