Sinai Health Accessibility

Learn more about our commitment to making our services accessible for everyone.

Our approach

Sinai Health is committed to making sure our programs and services are completely accessible to all members of the community.

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) 2005, the provincial government has outlined accessibility standards in five areas of daily living.

Our policies, practices and procedures outline how we are supporting individuals with disabilities. This includes the use of service animals, assistive devices, offering materials in large print, elevators with voice annunciation and interpretation services.

Communications devices (TTYs, Pocket Talkers and other assistive devices) are available to patients. Accessible telephones are also available throughout the hospital.

If you require an assistive device, please inform the clinic or unit staff before your visit and they will make the necessary arrangements.

Interpreter Services

Interpreter Services

We can arrange professional interpreters for more than 65 languages for patients who are more comfortable speaking a language other than English. We also offer interpretation for patients who are deaf or have hearing loss. There is no fee for these services.

If you need interpreter services on short notice and an in-person interpreter is not immediately available, we may use telephone and/or video interpretation using the latest communications technology.

Service animals

Service animals

Service animals are welcome to accompany you to your appointments. If you will be admitted to hospital, please inform the surgical pre-admission or nursing unit before your admission. This ensures that your service animal can be accommodated and the appropriate arrangements are made.

Please note there may be situations where alternate plans need to be made. However, every effort will be made to accommodate the use of your service animal.

Patient escorts

Patient escorts

If you need a volunteer to escort you while you are visiting the hospital, we will try our best to make someone available for you.

You can arrange for this when you arrive at the hospital reception during regular business hours. Please be advised that patient escorts cannot lift or transfer patients or visitors.
