Endocrine Oncology and Thyroid Clinic

Learn more about how we diagnose and treat patients with intermediate or high-risk thyroid cancer.

What we do

Our endocrinologists treat patients with intermediate or high-risk thyroid cancer. These cancers may spread or have already begun to spread beyond the thyroid.

What to expect

Our care team will ask you to fill out a patient questionnaire before your initial appointment. We may also recommend bloodwork, an ultrasound of the neck or other tests before your visit.

Our endocrinologist will review your test results and diagnostic images, ask about your medical history and discuss your diagnosis.

We work with you to develop a care plan that is specific to your needs. Your treatment options may include the following:

  • Surgery
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) suppressive therapy
  • Radioactive iodine therapy
  • External beam radiation
  • Systemic therapy or other medication

Before you leave, please make a follow-up appointment and ensure you have the requisitions and medication you need. Patients often need follow-up blood work or imaging such as ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT) scans or magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs).

Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so you may see a medical student, resident or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.

What to bring

  • Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
  • Hospital card
  • A list of current medications and supplements
  • A compact disc with a copy of any CT scans, MRIs or ultrasounds that were done outside of Mount Sinai or the University Health Network
  • A support person, if desired
