Ophthalmology Clinic

We offer diagnostic testing, consultation and treatment for a range of eye conditions.

What we do

Our Ophthalmology clinic team sees patients with a wide range of eye disorders and diseases, including adult strabismus, cataracts, corneal disease, glaucoma and retinal disorders.

We also see patients who experience vision problems caused by the nervous system and perform surgeries around the eye, including the eyelids, tear ducts and eye sockets.

Seeing an ophthalmologist early in your disease can help prevent further damage and maintain the health of your eyes.

For more information on eye health, please visit the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

What to expect

At your first appointment, an ophthalmologist will ask about your medical history and symptoms. The ophthalmologist may also perform an examination and recommend tests to better understand your condition.

Our Ophthalmology team will then work with you to decide on a care plan that is specific to your needs. We may recommend any of the following treatments:

  • Medication
  • Laser treatment
  • Surgery
  • Minor procedure

A minor procedure can take place in our clinic on the same day as your appointment.

If you require surgery, you will be given consent forms. These forms confirm that you understand and agree (consent) to your surgery and any associated risks. If you have questions about your consent forms, please call or email the clinic. Your consent forms must be signed and returned to the clinic before your surgery takes place.

A surgical coordinator will contact you when your surgery has been scheduled. Your surgery will take place at Mount Sinai Hospital or the Kensington Eye Institute.

If your surgery is at Mount Sinai, you will have an appointment at our pre-admission unit before your surgery. We will prepare you for your surgery during this appointment.

If your surgery is at the Kensington Eye Institute, please visit the Kensington Eye Institute website for more information about what to do before your surgery.

Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or fellows as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
