Uro-Oncology

We provide innovative treatment and care for patients with urologic cancers.

Urologic cancers are the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that begin in the urinary tract or male reproductive organs. This includes cancers of the bladder, kidney and prostate, among others.

The uro-oncology program at the Murry Koffler Urologic Wellness Centre is an internationally renowned program for patients with urologic cancers.

Our program focuses on the early detection of prostate cancer and we work closely with our colleagues at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to offer advanced treatment and the highest quality of care.

We also provide genetic counselling for patients with a higher risk of developing urologic cancers and opportunities for participating in research.

Our experts work on groundbreaking research that helps develop new tests and personalized treatments for bladder, kidney and prostate cancer.

What to expect

It is important to get regular checkups and screening if you have a family history or other risk factors linked to urologic cancer. You should also discuss any concerning symptoms with your health-care provider.

Each cancer is different and requires specialized treatment.

If you are referred to our cancer program, we may first send you for more tests to learn more about your cancer.

You will then meet with a surgeon and/or medical oncologist as part of your care.

Our uro-oncology care team will work with you to develop a plan of care that is specific to your needs.

Care plans may include any combination of surveillance, chemotherapy, radiation, systemic therapy or surgery.
