Nutrition Counselling and Education

We help patients explore healthy eating and provide specialized nutrition therapy to help manage chronic conditions.

What we do

Our Registered Dietitians (RD) offer nutrition services in collaboration with your health-care team.

Registered Dietitians are experts in nutrition. They are trained to provide medical nutrition therapy and education in order to promote health, prevent illness and manage many common conditions.

Our dietitians provide counseling and education in many areas of care. Our goal is to help you improve your eating habits and optimize your health.

Dietitians can help with many different issues, including:

  • Providing nutrition advice for every stage of life, from prenatal, infant and childhood nutrition, to nutrition counselling for older adults
  • Managing diabetes and pre-diabetes (this service is provided by a Registered Dietitian who has the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification)
  • Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure)
  • Gastrointestinal conditions (irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, food intolerances)
  • Weight management, including weight loss and weight gain
  • Food sensitivities or allergies
  • Disordered and emotional Eating
  • Preventive health nutrition

Nutrition group programs

We may also offer nutrition group programs throughout the year.  Please check with the clinic where you are a patient to find out about any current and upcoming groups or workshops.

What to Expect

At your first appointment, you will meet with a Registered Dietitian for a nutrition assessment and counseling. The dietitian will ask about your medical and nutrition history, as well as your specific goals.

We will work with you to help you meet your goals and work towards achieving your optimal nutritional health.

Dietitian appointments may be in person or by phone or video, depending on your preference.

We may ask you to keep a food journal for three days before your visit with the dietitian.  This will help provide the dietitian with a better idea of your typical eating patterns.

What to bring

  • Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
  • A list of questions you want to ask
  • Your food journal, if applicable
