Psychiatry Consultation at Mount Sinai Hospital

We support patients in Mount Sinai’s medical, surgical and obstetric units who are also experiencing mental health concerns.

What we do

Our Psychiatry team provides assessment and treatment for patients admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital’s medical, surgical or obstetric units who are also experiencing mental health concerns.

A patient’s mental health concerns may have been present before their physical health condition or may have developed or worsened during medical treatment.

Our team has specialized expertise in the areas of care provided at Mount Sinai, including Cancer, Cardiology, General Internal Medicine, Surgery, Palliative Care, addiction services, and Women’s and Infants’ Health.

In addition, we have a dedicated service for older adults (65+) experiencing mental illness during a hospital stay or a visit to the emergency department.

What to expect

Our Psychiatry team will work with you and other members of your care team to determine a psychiatric management plan that integrates with your other care in hospital.

Your care plan is tailored to your specific needs and may include:

  • Medication options
  • Psycho-social interventions
  • Therapies
  • Recommendations for educational tools and self-help resources

How to access our services

Your medical, surgical or obstetric care team may request a Psychiatry consultation during your hospitalization.
