OB Medicine Clinic

We provide medical advice and support to patients with a range of medical conditions in pregnancy.

What we do

The OB Medicine Clinic team provides medical advice and support to patients with various medical conditions during pregnancy, pre-pregnancy and postpartum.

Our team is led by general internal medicine specialists with training and experience in medical disorders during pregnancy. We see patients with both pre-existing and newly diagnosed conditions such as hypertension, kidney disease, chronic headaches, asthma and more.

What to expect

You will continue to receive pregnancy care from your current obstetrician, midwife or family care provider while you are a patient at our clinic.

During your first appointment, one of our physicians will review your medical history and perform a physical exam.

After the exam we will work with you to decide on a care plan that is specific to your needs. Your care plan may include any of the following:

  • Close monitoring and management of your medical condition throughout preconception, pregnancy and postpartum periods
  • Blood tests, medical imaging or other tests specific to your condition
  • Management of your medication to ensure it is safe and effective during pregnancy
  • Referrals to other specialists, if needed

It is important to us that you participate in decision-making about your care. We will help you understand your treatment choices so that you can make the best possible decisions for yourself and your baby.

We may recommend follow-up appointments at our clinic throughout your pregnancy and postpartum, as needed. Virtual appointments may be available for some follow up visits.

We try to schedule your clinic visits on the same day as your other appointments, ultrasounds or tests. This can make for a very long day, so please come prepared to spend several hours at the hospital.

Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
