Pregnancy, Birth and Newborn Care

We provide compassionate and expert pregnancy, birth, postpartum and newborn care.

When you choose to have a baby at Mount Sinai Hospital, you have options for your pregnancy care.

You may receive care from your family physician, a midwife or one of our Mount Sinai obstetricians. Regardless of who you choose, our care teams are committed to providing compassionate and expert care for you and your baby.

It is important to us that you participate in decision-making about your care. We will help you understand the information and evidence you need to make informed choices about your care.

We believe pregnancy is a special time, and we are here to support you throughout. Our approach to care is guided by several core beliefs which include the following:

  • Our care is grounded in safety and evidence-based practices
  • We acknowledge that birth is a life-changing event and strive to optimize safety in all births by offering a range of supports
  • We respect diverse cultural expressions of birth.
  • We promote informed decision-making and uphold our patients’ autonomy and dignity.
  • Effective, clear and respectful communication is essential to good-quality care.
