Postnatal Ambulatory Clinic (PNAC)

We provide infant feeding support and other medical services during the first six weeks after birth.

What we do

The Postnatal Ambulatory Clinic (PNAC) team provides infant feeding support and other medical services to patients and their newborn babies during the first six weeks after birth.

We primarily help parents facing infant feeding challenges and also offer follow-up care for babies without a primary care provider after they have been discharged from the hospital.

What to expect

During your first appointment, you will meet with one of our nurses to talk about how you and your baby are doing. Depending on the reason for your appointment, we may examine your baby and recommend tests such as blood tests or newborn screening tests.

If your appointment is for a feeding assessment, you will meet with a lactation consultant who will talk to you about your birth experience and the challenges you are facing with infant feeding.  Your lactation consultant will observe as you feed your baby and work with you to decide on a feeding plan that is specific to your needs.

Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so you may see a medical student, resident or other medical trainee as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.

Your appointment might run longer than expected, so please bring any items that you and your baby might need, including pain medication, snacks, a change of clothes or any other personal supplies.

Our team may recommend a follow-up appointment at our clinic or a virtual appointment to provide continued support as needed.

What to bring

  • Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
  • A list of your current medications
  • A list of questions you want to ask
  • A support person, if desired
  • Any personal items you and your baby will need (medication, snacks, change of clothes, etc.)

How to access our services

We accept internal referrals from Mount Sinai care providers for infant care in addition to patient self-referrals for infant feeding appointments. Please phone 416-586-4800 ext. 7409 for an appointment.
